Derby where awful, but not as awful as the bastard journey home. Never seen so many roadworks!

Anyway good performance, some great performances mainly from Aguerd and Downes. Both look mustard every time they play. Emerson deserves a mention too, been a good LWB last few games. Oggy positioning was superb at times. Benrahma link up play when he came on was a joy to watch, he actually staked a claim as a number 9 for me he was that good, but then who do you put wide? As always Fornals was fucking useless out there, why does Moyes keep playing him there when he is dogshit every single time.

Speaking of dogshit, time for Ben Johnson to move on, he was terrible last night...... if you can't impose yourself on league one players you arent good enough for West Ham. He cant go forward or seem to keep the ball, nice lad homegrown etc but we need a big improvement down that side.

Finally I am not convinced this 5-3-2 formation works for us. We play 5 at the back and then 2 wingers which leaves a massive fucking hole in the middle. Antonio gets a ball fired into him there's no one within 20-30 yards of him. There is no penetration or creativity from the middle of the park. When we have the ball the full backs should push on to provide width and Bowen and Benny should drift inside or one of the CM should push a bit. Against the tough sides we got coming up think we will get found out to be honest

Finally superb away end last night, that last 15 mins was like a greatest hits album with all the classics being sung one after the other. Never seen us silence a noisy home end like that before either. Fantastic support for a monday night

Side - If I was still there freezing me bollocks off I wouldn't have trecked up to Derby on a Monday night, in fact not even sure if I would still even be going at all bar the odd game, just like yourself and many on here.

Like many of our players, Johnson seems to have had the confidence coached out of him.

As always in football, the answer is just getting rid or players and buying new ones.

There was a time when coaches who saw a decline in their players would be held responsible and canned.

That time has gone so I imagine Johnson will be sold for a couple of million as will Coufal and we will spend £15m on a player equally unimpressive.

Someone makes money though

…..and Manuel shows why being away from it for so long makes you forget some of the best things about West Ham…..you stick to your glamorous league programme Manny son…..the far east needs you shouting it’s corner….

*applauds those that went last night, they are what’s left of what can still be a great club, and deserve far better than they get on the football side of things….

MOTM has to be there imperious away support. Did everything short of score and take the home end.

As I predicted before the game we would win, much to the bemusement of some on here. But I didn't watch it and won't be reading through this thread as it's all a big fucking shrug. Back to the real football on Saturday.

Aguerd is clearly quality and would be brilliant in the centre but one wonders if Moyes has plonked him on the left to cover our pace deficiencies there. Oggy is really a left sided defender but clearly him with age and injury and Cresswell it's old and slow with those two. If we could get another top left sided centre back and two good full backs with a fit Zouma on right of centre defence we would have a solid back five.

Will the win tonight mean our game against Nottingham will be moved?
If so, that means we've got a great run of games coming up; Newcastle, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man U (cup), Brighton, Villa, European tie and then Man City.

Decent performance, although I thought Derby were pretty poor.

As others have said, it was encouraging to see us play the ball out of defence and through midfield Lacked innovation in the final third.

But all of the passing was made a lot easier by the fact that Derby didn't really press us, which is our Achilles heel. So even Soucek had time to play accurate passes. He did well tonight, in all fairness to him. But he won't get that time in the Premier League.

A few observations.

For me the best aspect of our play was when we're playing the ball out of defence - some superb passing moves at times. Unfortunately the closer we get to the other end the less cohesive it becomes. We scored two nice goals but against a side at this level we ought to be creating more chances.

Can't be positive enough about Aguerd - what a player. Ogbonna solid enough, Kehrer mostly ok but the odd flaky moment. Emerson really good going forward, not quite so convincing in defence but with Aguerd behind him I don't see that as much of a concern. Much better than Cresswell as a wing-back. Johnson just not good enough - seems to lack confidence and conviction.

Soucek had a surprisingly decent game. Downes made some good tackles and interceptions but my problem with him is that his default setting for passing a football is sideways or backwards, which is very frustrating when you see him missing opportunities to make fairly obvious positive forward passes. For me, sadly, he didn't do enough to stake a claim to be a first team regular. Fornals worked hard as always and was the usual mixture of good and bad. The same could be said of Bowen and Antonio.

Soucek just had loads of space, he wasn't pressed at all.

Did well with it a good game, but won't get it in the league wherever Rice plays, the opposition know what to do.

Mad Dog 1:36 Tue Jan 31
Re: ⚽ Derby v West Ham - Official Match Thread - Preview
Was soucek's performance because it was against poor opposition or because he wasn't next to rice and got forward more?
Hopefully it will give him a Bit of confidence to pick up his game in the league.

Inch by inch I think we’re getting somewhere close to what is required.

Although it feels horribly negative, the 3 centre halves looks more secure.

Emerson is shit defensively but is at least forward thinking and quick. The right side though is a bit of a mess.

Oh and Areola should start in the league now.

A win, but another fucking joyless performance. Observations:

Aguerd is MUSTARD.

Downes looked very good, nothing spectacular but efficient and good on the ball.

Bowen and Antonio are hideously frustrating.

Fornals managed to look mostly poor against league one players.

Soucek played alright.

Emerson is the most embarrassingly one footed player since Etherington.

Johnson is a non footballer.

Moyes is a hopeless fucking wanker.

Derby were absolute toss.

Fair play Gilmore.

Penalty at OT? I hope u mean we get one ? I mean they have had more than their fair share of dodgy ones down the years.

I don’t personally see Moyes getting a result at a top 6 club but will keep me eye out for pigs in the sky over the next few weeks ;-)
